ModIQ is designed as follows :

1. Load your current Basal Rates
2. Download your data from Tidepool and load into ModIQ
3. ModIQ examines the changes to your basal rates by Control IQ, and any boluses made, to keep you in range
4. The aim is to minimise the work Control IQ does on normal days, thus allowing it to take more effective action when it is needed
5. It will then suggest new basal rates to apply across the day
6. The new rates are not based on the average of insulin supplied but a percentage of the way from your current rates to what was used recently. You can select how much of an impact to make

Think of it like the Medtronic AutoMode works... every night at midnight, it (appears) to compare how the last 24hrs went compared to previous days and internally recalculates what rates to use for the next 24 hours where it will then recalculate any modifications required

As we know the Tandem pump works off your programmed rates when you are within range (the range varies according to what activity mode - Normal, Sleep, Exercise) and when you are predicted to go outside, and how far outside that range, will modify the programmed rates - the less variation it needs to make, clearly the simpler it will be should it later need to make a variation
